History

In 1992, when His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios was appointed to come to Albania as an Exarch for the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania had been devastated and almost ceased to exist after nearly 50 years of communist persecution. The reestablished Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania, under the guidance of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios began to reopen, rebuild and restore churches and reestablish an Orthodox community in Albania. By 1998 when the Spirit of Love Foundation was established, Albania remained one the most impoverished countries in the Balkans and Europe. A great need existed for a local community foundation to assist the whole of Albania to rebuild the broken infra structure after the fall of communism and to address the many social problems that existed due to poverty, lack of education and numerous humanitarian crisis and civil unrest.
Rooted in the Biblical teaching to “love your neighbor as you love yourself”, the Foundation sought initially to open nursery schools in Tirana, Durres and Korca to provide safe, loving learning environments for children while their families worked to earn a living. In 2002 the first primary school, the Albanian-American Protagonists Private School opened in Tirana with only 15 children. Today The Fondation oversees three K-12 schools, Albanian – American Protagonists, Tirana, Fryme Dashurie Shqip-Grek, in Durres and Gjirokastra. There are 20 kopsht operated throughout Albania from as far north as Shkodra and to the south in Gjirokaster. There is a new kolgji Platon in Korca and a vocational high school and 2-year professional school in Mesopotam. We have ----------- students and employ ___________ of teachers.
The new curriculum that has been developed and installed in all the schools of Albania seeks to integrate European and American interacting learning models and concepts and move away from knowledge based curriculum to building competency.
Many of these strategies have been in place in our schools for years and the high achievement scores in their IX Masa and XII Matura exams reflect the quality of the education our students are receiving.
